Coating Flat Cell: Models CFC-13 CFC-34
Models CFC-13 and CFC-34 are Electrochemical Coating Flat Cells employing a large area working electrode specifically for the testing of the type of flat and coated electrochemical specimens that have been utilized by many researchers. This design has been refined and has seen widespread use for EIS and conventional electrochemical tests. It is simple, easy to use and is carefully made from quality materials.
The flat panel cell for coated samples consists of a cylindrical acrylic cell body with an O-ring seal for direct clamping to a flat sample having a 2" to 3" width dimension and length of 2" or more. Exposed sample area is 13 cm.sq. The counter electrode is held parallel to the surface of the sample to provide optimum current distribution for conventional and EIS measurements. The reference electrode is mounted so as to fit through an opening in the counter electrode. The cell will accommodate samples having a thickness from foils up to 1/4". A standard 2-223 size neoprene O-ring is supplied with each cell. Other O-ring materials are available on request.
The CFC-34 flat panel cell for coated plates consists of a cylindrical cell body with a O-ring grooved bottom edge for direct clamping to a flat sample having a 3" (7.6 cm) or a 4" (10.2 cm) width dimension and any length of 3" or more. The counter electrode is parallel to the surface of the sample to provide optimum current distribution for EIS measurements. The reference electrode is mounted so as to fit through an opening in the counter electrode. The cell body rests on the sample and is pressure clamped to the sample between the top and bottom plates with four threaded stainless rods. The four rod clamping approach improves the alignment of the cell body and sample over other designs. The cell will accommodate samples having a 3" width and a thickness of 1/16" or less to 3/8" (<1 to 10 mm). The top and bottom cell clamping plates are fabricated from acrylic for corrosion resistance. All cell hardware is stainless steel. A neoprene sealing O-ring is supplied with each cell.
The cell is furnished with a top bar having holes for the mounting of the counter electrode and support of the reference electrode. The cell top is otherwise open and accessible.
The counter electrode is 125 micro inches of Pt on Nb expanded mesh and has a surface area of about 25 cm.sq. (both sides). The cell electrolyte capacity is about 125 mL depending on the level of fill. The cell body is acrylic (polymethyl methacrylate), which has excellent chemical resistance and good optical clarity for observation of the working electrode and the contents of the cell.
